The Galloway School in Atlanta, Georgia, is mourning the loss of Felicia McCrary, its esteemed Upper Learning Principal, whose death was announced on Thursday, November 14, 2024. A beacon of warmth, dedication, and leadership within the school community, McCrary’s passing has left an indelible void. The announcement, shared through a heartfelt social media post by the school, did not disclose her cause of death.  


“Today, our hearts are extremely heavy as we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved friend, leader, and community pillar, Felicia McCrary,” the statement began. The post paid tribute to her unparalleled commitment and highlighted the profound impact she had on countless lives during her 27 years at the institution. It emphasized her kindness, humor, and vibrant spirit, which will be deeply missed and forever cherished.  


McCrary's journey at The Galloway School began in August 1997 when she joined as an Upper Learning teacher. Armed with a BA and MA in Psychology and Education from Wake Forest University, she brought a unique blend of academic excellence and heartfelt dedication to her role. Over the years, she served in several capacities, including Director of Student Life and Director of Strategic Engagement, before being appointed Upper Learning Principal in July 2022.  


Throughout her tenure, McCrary became a cornerstone of the Galloway community, deeply loved and respected by students, colleagues, and parents alike. Known for her innovative approach to education, she played a pivotal role in shaping the school’s ethos, fostering a nurturing environment where students thrived academically and personally. Her leadership was marked by a commitment to inclusivity and a tireless drive to ensure that every student felt seen, valued, and empowered.  


The tributes pouring in since her passing speak volumes about her influence. One mourner described her as "one of the few people I’ve known who was beloved by everyone—students, colleagues, friends, family, and anyone fortunate enough to meet her." Another tribute noted, “The Galloway community and the world was a brighter place with Felicia McCrary in it.”
