Late Tuesday night, a tragic shooting in a west Birmingham neighborhood claimed the life of 22-year-old Ty’Keem Dishad Moore. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Moore's identity following the incident, which saw nearly 50 shots fired. The Birmingham Police Department responded to a report of a person shot at approximately 11:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of Princeton Court S.W. Alley. Upon arrival, officers found Moore lying off to the side of an alley, deceased from at least one gunshot wound.
Authorities believe the incident began earlier in the evening. At 10:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the same neighborhood after three separate ShotSpotter alerts indicated a total of 49 rounds fired in the 1800 block of Princeton Court. During their initial response, officers found shell casings and noted gunfire damage to two vehicles and a residence. However, no injuries were reported at that time.
More than an hour later, officers were called back to the scene when Moore’s body was discovered, reportedly by a family member. Investigators believe Moore may have attempted to flee after being shot but ultimately collapsed in the alley. This tragic incident marks the 147th homicide in Birmingham in 2024, breaking a two-week streak without a fatal shooting in the city. Of these 147 homicides, 11 have been ruled justifiable and are not considered criminal. Additionally, one was an officer-involved shooting, and two were from prior years with the victims succumbing to their injuries in 2024. Across Jefferson County, there have been a total of 187 homicides this year, including those in Birmingham.
