Two Saginaw Residents Die in Early-Morning Crash Near Birch Park on Hess Avenue

Saginaw, Mich. — A devastating accident early Sunday morning near Birch Park Apartments claimed the lives of two Saginaw residents, Demon M. Galvin and My’Eshia O. Barnes, both 24. The crash occurred around 3:50 a.m., when emergency responders arrived at Hess Avenue and Birch Park Drive to find a 2018 Dodge Durango on its passenger side, engulfed in flames after hitting a utility pole. Galvin was trapped inside, while Barnes and another 24-year-old woman from Bridgeport were thrown from the vehicle. Despite officers’ efforts to put out the fire, it continued until firefighters arrived, but by then, Galvin and Barnes were already deceased. The third passenger remains in critical condition.

Initial investigations indicate that speed was a significant factor in the crash, though the exact cause is still under investigation. The Saginaw County Multijurisdictional Traffic Crash Team is leading the inquiry, looking into potential contributing elements such as road conditions and driver behavior. This accident marks the third and fourth traffic-related fatalities in Saginaw in just a few weeks.

Earlier, on Nov. 15, a head-on collision on East Genesee Avenue resulted in the deaths of Jayden Burnett, 24, and Scintayvian McMullen, 22, after their vehicles caught fire following a severe impact. These incidents have heightened concerns about traffic safety and the perils of high-speed driving within the community.

As the investigation progresses, the Saginaw community is mourning the loss of Galvin and Barnes. Friends and family are struggling with the suddenness of their deaths, while residents are calling for renewed efforts to improve road safety. Authorities are urging drivers to stay vigilant, adhere to speed limits, and exercise caution to prevent further tragedies.

In the wake of these tragic losses, the focus is on raising awareness and implementing better safety measures to protect the community. The memory of Galvin and Barnes serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety, and their deaths have spurred calls for action to prevent such accidents in the future. As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to uncovering the full details of the crash and ensuring that similar incidents are avoided. The community’s thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
