Pedestrian Killed in Accident on Staten Island University Hospital Grounds

 


A devastating incident occurred on the grounds of Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, Staten Island, on Wednesday morning, resulting in the tragic loss of life of a 64-year-old pedestrian. The victim, identified as Kathleen Murphy, a resident of Willowbrook, was struck by a vehicle while walking on the hospital's campus.


According to the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) Highway District Collision Investigation Squad, the incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. as Murphy was walking from the hospital parking lot toward the main building, located at 242 Mason Avenue. A 67-year-old male driver, operating a Volkswagen SUV, was traveling southwest on the access road of the parking lot when he struck Murphy, who was walking northbound.


Staten Island University Hospital issued a statement expressing their profound grief and condolences to Murphy's family and colleagues. "We are deeply saddened by the devastating incident that took place today on our campus. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and our team members during this difficult time. We remain committed to supporting everyone affected and are fully cooperating with authorities in their ongoing investigation."


Although not officially confirmed, sources reported to Advance/SILive.com that Murphy was an employee of the hospital. The news of her tragic passing sent shockwaves throughout the hospital community, leaving staff and colleagues in mourning.
