 OUACHITA COUNTY, AR — A tragic two-vehicle collision in rural Ouachita County on Tuesday morning claimed the life of 69-year-old James D. Cannedy from Bearden, Arkansas. The crash occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on US Highway 79, north of Arkansas Highway 9, near Eagle Mills. The Arkansas State Police reported that the incident involved a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 78-year-old Jamie L. Williams, also from Bearden, and a 2018 Dodge Ram.


Preliminary reports indicate that the Dodge Ram struck the Chevrolet Silverado from behind, causing the Silverado to veer off the left side of the roadway and crash into several trees. James Cannedy, a passenger in the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Jamie Williams, sustained injuries and was transported to OCHSNER LSU Health Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, for treatment. The condition of the occupants of the Dodge Ram has not yet been disclosed by authorities.


According to Senior Cpl. Billy Walker of the Arkansas State Police, the collision occurred under clear skies and dry road conditions. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with no immediate indications of contributing factors such as weather, speed, or impairment.


County Road 1000N was closed for nearly five hours, reopening at 11 p.m. as authorities worked diligently to clear the scene and gather evidence. The extensive closure underscores the severity of the collision and the thorough investigation required to determine its cause.
