Three Dead in Egypt Road Collision Near Gray-Raymond Line

A fatal crash on Egypt Road, near the Gray-Raymond town line, has left three people dead, according to local authorities. The collision occurred mid-morning on Wednesday, involving a pickup truck traveling southbound and a car heading northbound. Witnesses had previously reported erratic driving by the truck shortly before the incident.

At around 11:40 a.m., Raymond Fire & Rescue and Gray Fire-Rescue arrived on the scene and immediately shut down both directions of Egypt Road, blocking access for several hours to allow for the investigation. Officials identified the victims as the 56-year-old truck driver and two elderly passengers, both aged 80, in the oncoming vehicle. Emergency responders were met with a devastating scene and had to secure the area before traffic resumed around 2:25 p.m.

Eyewitnesses had initially alerted authorities regarding the truck's unusual driving, which became central to the investigation. Although the cause of the crash remains under review, authorities are looking into whether any impairment, mechanical failure, or medical issues could have contributed. Both the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Raymond Fire Department are participating in the reconstruction and analysis of the events that led to the crash.

This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns for drivers in rural Maine, where high speeds and narrow roads increase the risk of severe accidents. Police are expected to release further details once a comprehensive report is complete, but the tragedy has underscored the need for heightened road safety and caution among drivers, especially as winter conditions begin to affect driving conditions.

The loss has deeply affected the Raymond and Gray communities, with authorities expressing condolences to the families involved and reinforcing the importance of cautious driving on Maine’s more rural roadways.
