Two Dead, Dozens Injured in French Bus Crash Involving Colombians

Officials have confirmed that many of the victims involved in a tragic bus crash in Southern France, which resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to dozens more, are Colombian citizens. On Monday, Colombia's foreign affairs ministry announced that 30 of the passengers were Colombian nationals living in Spain.

Alfonso Prada, Colombia’s ambassador to France, stated that the bus, which crashed on Sunday evening in the French Pyrenees, was returning to Barcelona after a shopping trip to Andorra. The bus was carrying 47 people when it crashed into a cliff near the ski resort of Porte Puymorens. Local authorities reported that seven passengers are in critical condition.

Prada mentioned that many of the passengers were Barcelona residents who had traveled to Andorra for seasonal shopping sales. He also noted that some victims' relatives have contacted Colombia’s consulate in Barcelona for assistance.

The injured are currently receiving medical treatment in four hospitals across southern France, as well as in a hospital in the Catalonian city of Puigcerda. The rescue effort involved more than 120 individuals, including personnel from neighboring Catalonia in Spain and Andorra, with helicopters also deployed to assist.

The incident has left the Colombian community in shock, as they mourn the loss of their compatriots and hope for the recovery of the injured. The ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the precise cause of the crash, as officials continue to support the victims and their families during this difficult time.
