Police Release New Photos of Suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's Fatal Shooting

Law enforcement officials have released new photos of the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a targeted attack on Wednesday in Midtown Manhattan. The images, captured by surveillance cameras, provide a clearer look at the gunman as authorities intensify their efforts to track him down.

Brian Thompson, 50, was fatally shot outside the New York Hilton Midtown on Sixth Avenue. The attack occurred shortly before Thompson was scheduled to address an investor conference hosted by UnitedHealth Group. Authorities have described the killing as a “premeditated and meticulously planned” act.

According to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the shooter had been waiting for Thompson near the hotel for several minutes before approaching from behind and opening fire. Thompson was struck at least twice, once in the back and once in the right calf, before collapsing on the sidewalk. The assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The newly released images depict the suspect wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, gloves, and carrying a gray backpack. He was also seen wearing a mask, further complicating efforts to identify him. Despite the mask, investigators are hopeful the photos will generate leads from the public or individuals who may have seen the suspect in the area before or after the shooting.

Law enforcement officials continue to stress the deliberate nature of the attack, noting that the gunman demonstrated proficiency with his weapon, which has yet to be recovered. The NYPD has not yet determined a motive for the killing but is pursuing several leads. Thompson had reportedly received threats in the past, though he did not travel with a personal security detail. Authorities are working to determine whether the attack is connected to these prior threats or if there were other underlying motives.

Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous, and a reward may be offered for information leading to an arrest.

The tragic killing of Brian Thompson has sent shockwaves through the business community and beyond. Colleagues and friends have described him as a dedicated leader and a compassionate individual committed to improving healthcare access. UnitedHealth Group released a statement expressing deep sorrow over his death and offering condolences to his family.

As the investigation continues, heightened security measures are being implemented at major events and venues across Manhattan to ensure public safety. The NYPD has reassured the public that every resource is being utilized to bring the perpetrator to justice.
