Lexington Man Killed in Versailles Road Shooting, Marking Second Homicide in Two Days

A fatal shooting on Versailles Road Sunday night resulted in the death of 44-year-old Quaynell King, marking Lexington's second homicide within two days. The Fayette County coroner confirmed King’s identity on Monday morning. The incident unfolded at around 8:44 p.m. when police were called to the 1800 block of Versailles Road following reports of gunfire. Shortly after, King was brought to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m. in the emergency department of the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

This tragic event came just a day after another fatal shooting in the 1000 block of Chinoe Road. In that incident, 35-year-old Gregory Williams from Warren, Michigan, was discovered with a gunshot wound on Saturday night. Williams was subsequently taken to a hospital where he also succumbed to his injuries. These back-to-back homicides have left the Lexington community reeling.

The Lexington Police Department has yet to release details regarding suspects or motives in either case. Both shootings remain under active investigation as authorities work to piece together the circumstances that led to these violent acts. The police are urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigations.

The spate of violence has raised concerns among residents and city officials alike. Community leaders are calling for enhanced measures to curb gun violence and increase public safety. The Lexington Police Department is collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to investigate these crimes thoroughly and to prevent further incidents.

As the investigations continue, the families and friends of the victims are grappling with their sudden losses. Quaynell King and Gregory Williams have been remembered by those who knew them as individuals with unique personalities and cherished roles within their communities. The community’s outpouring of grief highlights the profound impact these tragedies have had on the city.

In response to the shootings, local organizations and city officials are planning vigils and community meetings to address the violence and seek solutions. The recent homicides underscore the need for ongoing efforts to address the root causes of violence and ensure the safety of all Lexington residents. As the city mourns, authorities remain focused on bringing justice to the victims and their families, and on taking steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
