Fatal Hit-and-Run on NY Thruway Near Catskill Kills Sara Llorens



In a tragic incident on the New York State Thruway early Wednesday morning, 26-year-old Sara Llorens, a resident of Burlington, Vermont, lost her life in a fatal crash that has now sparked a hit-and-run investigation by State Police. The crash occurred near exit 21 in the town of Catskill just before 4 a.m.


According to the investigators, Llorens was driving her 2014 Subaru southbound on the Thruway when her vehicle veered off the road and struck the median. Upon exiting her vehicle, which had caught fire, she tried to cross the highway. Tragically, she was struck by a northbound vehicle whose driver then fled the scene. This has left the authorities in search of answers.


The aftermath of the crash necessitated the full closure of the Thruway from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. as police and emergency responders worked diligently to investigate and clear the scene. Initially, reports incorrectly indicated the crash location as Athens, but later clarification confirmed it occurred in Catskill.
