Armed Suspect Scott Mason Sought After Shooting Vermont Officer During Domestic Violence Call



 Vermont State Police are currently engaged in an intensive search for Scott Mason, a 38-year-old man accused of shooting and injuring Captain Jason Gray of the St. Johnsbury Police Department. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Captain Gray responded to a domestic violence report at Mason's residence, a second-floor apartment at 261 Portland Street, St. Johnsbury.


Authorities have classified Mason as armed and dangerous, urging the public to avoid approaching him. Instead, they should immediately contact 911 if they see him or have any information regarding his whereabouts. Mason is described as being 5’11” tall, weighing approximately 220 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. At the time of the incident, he was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and pants.


Captain Gray, who was shot during the encounter, is currently in stable condition. He is receiving treatment at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, after being airlifted there for medical care. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.


Major Shawn Loan, Commander of the Vermont State Police Criminal Division, emphasized the relentless efforts of law enforcement to locate Mason. "We’re not going to let up our search until we find Mr. Mason," Loan stated. He also called on the public to assist by reporting any sightings or information about Mason. "If you see him, please call 911," he urged.
