14-year-old Jahkye Gayle collapsed during a football practice in Bloomfield and later died

BLOOMFIELD, CT — A devastating event shook the Bloomfield community on Wednesday when 14-year-old Jahkye Gayle, a cherished member of the Pop Warner-sponsored Bloomfield Junior Warhawks Football Team, collapsed during practice and later passed away. Despite the immediate efforts of staff and emergency personnel, Jahkye could not be revived.

According to Trevor Ford, president of Junior Warhawks Football, Jahkye collapsed during a routine warmup drill. “It was just like a walk-through, essentially just light jogging. Nothing strenuous or anything like that,” Ford explained.

The community has been left heartbroken by this sudden loss. On Saturday night, hundreds of teammates, friends, and family members gathered on the football field to honor Jahkye’s memory. The emotional vigil included candlelight ceremonies and a symbolic release of balloons into the sky, reflecting the deep sense of loss felt by all who knew him.

Jahkye’s brother, Lamar, expressed his profound sorrow, stating, “It’s hard losing my brother, someone I shared a room with, did everything with, and grew up with. He was overall a great person who changed people with his presence.” Jahkye was not only admired for his skills on the field but also for his sense of humor and positive impact on those around him.

Jahkye had been an integral part of the Junior Warhawks Pop Warner Football Team for many years and was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award at this year’s banquet. His teammates have expressed their commitment to dedicating the rest of their season, including their upcoming national championship appearance, to his memory.

The Bloomfield community has rallied together in support of Jahkye’s family during this incredibly difficult time. The vigil on Saturday night served as a poignant reminder of Jahkye’s influence and the void left by his passing. Friends, family, and community members shared their memories and expressed their condolences, highlighting the deep impact Jahkye had on everyone around him.

As the investigation into Jahkye’s sudden collapse continues, the community remains united in grief and support for his family. The tragic loss of such a young life has underscored the importance of cherishing every moment and the bonds we share with one another. The Bloomfield Junior Warhawks Football Team and the wider community will continue to honor Jahkye’s legacy, keeping his memory alive through their actions and dedication to the sport he loved.
