Tesla Cybertruck crash in Piedmont kills three after vehicle hits tree and catches fire

The devastating crash of a Tesla Cybertruck in Piedmont, California, on Wednesday morning has left the East Bay community mourning the loss of three young adults. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Hampton Road and King Avenue when the Cybertruck, engulfed in flames after crashing into a tree, was discovered by Piedmont police. Three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth occupant, Jordan Miller, was pulled from the burning vehicle by a driver following behind the Cybertruck. Jordan, a 20-year-old University of Wisconsin sophomore, was identified by his mother, Samantha Miller, during a Friday interview with CBS News Bay Area.

Jordan Miller is currently undergoing surgery and his mother expressed the family's devastation and gratitude for the community's support. She also identified the other three victims: Jack Nelson, Soren Dixon, and Krysta Tsukahara, all 2023 graduates of Piedmont High School and current college sophomores.

The community of Piedmont has shown immense sympathy and support, with a growing memorial of flowers and notes at the crash site. The victims, home for the Thanksgiving holiday, were deeply mourned by friends, family, and residents.

Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers indicated that the Cybertruck was likely traveling too fast when it hit a retaining wall before crashing into the tree. While speed is considered a contributing factor, other circumstances, including potential mechanical issues or the vehicle's lithium battery, are still under investigation. The California Highway Patrol and the Piedmont Fire Department are collaborating in this ongoing investigation.

The tragic loss of these young lives has profoundly affected the small community, evident during the annual Turkey Trot event, which became a memorial for the victims. Piedmont Mayor Jen Cavenaugh, deeply moved, emphasized the irreplaceable loss and the deep sorrow felt by the families and community. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the crash, with the community's thoughts and prayers focused on the families of the victims.
