Pamela Jean Beebe, 67, died in a head-on collision near Brainerd Airport on Highway 210

A tragic head-on collision on Highway 210 near the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport claimed the life of 67-year-old Pamela Jean Beebe, a Brainerd resident, on Monday morning, Nov. 25. The accident, which occurred around 7:23 a.m. in Oak Lawn Township, involved two vehicles and highlighted the dangers of icy winter roads.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the collision happened when a 2022 Ram 2500, traveling westbound on the highway, began to slide on the snow- and ice-covered road. The vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2020 Honda CR-V driven by Beebe. The impact caused both vehicles to veer into the south ditch near the airport’s east gate, resulting in severe damage.

Emergency responders, including the Brainerd Fire Department, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, and North Memorial Paramedic Ambulance, quickly arrived at the scene. Tragically, Beebe was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The driver of the Ram, identified as 47-year-old Donald James Want of Deerwood, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Essentia Health-St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators have indicated that the snow and ice on the roadway played a significant role in the collision. The Minnesota State Patrol is conducting a thorough investigation to determine if there were any additional contributing factors. At this time, no charges or citations have been issued, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for caution during hazardous winter driving conditions.

Driving in winter remains a formidable challenge for Minnesota residents. Officials are urging drivers to reduce their speed, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and ensure their cars are equipped with proper winter tires. These precautions are vital for preventing accidents, especially during the early morning hours when roads are most dangerous due to ice.

The untimely death of Pamela Beebe has deeply affected the Brainerd community, as friends and family mourn the loss of a beloved resident. Many are reflecting on her life and the positive contributions she made to the area. The community's thoughts and condolences are with Beebe's loved ones as they navigate this difficult time and cope with the heart-wrenching loss brought on by the harsh winter conditions.

As the investigation into the crash continues, state officials remain focused on advocating for safer driving practices to prevent future tragedies. This incident not only underscores the inherent dangers of winter driving but also reinforces the importance of vigilance and safety measures on the road. The Brainerd community stands united in grief and support for Beebe’s family and friends during this profoundly sorrowful period.
