The crash took place on Alabama 171, around 2:30 p.m., approximately 16 miles north of Tuscaloosa in Tuscaloosa County, and left two others injured. According to Trooper Cpl. Reginal King, the accident involved a Nissan Rogue and a Ford F-150. Kornegay was a passenger in the Nissan Rogue, which was traveling along Alabama 171. The Ford F-150 was driven by 71-year-old James M. Hollingsworth of Lamar Kennedy. The head-on collision resulted in the immediate death of Barbara Kornegay at the scene, as confirmed by first responders.


The driver of the Nissan Rogue, 81-year-old Frederick Kornegay, and another passenger, 87-year-old Anne N. Churchwell of Sylacauga, sustained injuries in the crash. Both were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for medical treatment. The specifics of their injuries remain undisclosed, but they are currently under medical care, receiving necessary attention.


Investigators are working tirelessly to determine the factors that led to this fatal collision.
