24-Year-Old Man Shot Dead by Deputies After Firing Gun in Fair Oaks

24-Year-Old Man Shot Dead by Deputies After Firing Gun in Fair Oaks

Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man fatally shot by Sacramento County deputies last week as 24-year-old Israel Price of Carmichael. The deadly incident followed an overnight manhunt prompted by an escalating altercation between Price and his roommate that culminated in gunfire.

The chain of events began late Wednesday night, around 11:40 p.m., when deputies responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment on the 6600 block of Moraga Drive in Carmichael. According to officials, the incident originated from a heated dispute between Price and his roommate. During the altercation, Price allegedly discharged a firearm, prompting the roommate to notify law enforcement.

By the time deputies arrived at the scene, Price had fled. Witnesses reported that he was armed with a revolver-style handgun. Law enforcement initiated a search, combing through the neighborhood and surrounding areas to locate him.

After hours of searching, deputies tracked Price to a residential area on the 6800 block of Ashfield Way in Fair Oaks. At approximately 3:45 a.m., Price was discovered on the rooftop of a home. Authorities claim that upon being confronted, Price fired his weapon at the deputies. In response, three deputies discharged their firearms, striking Price.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement officials have not disclosed the number of shots fired or whether Price’s gunfire caused any injuries to the deputies. Preliminary findings suggest the deputies acted in self-defense, although this has yet to be independently corroborated.

As is standard in officer-involved shootings, the three deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of multiple investigations. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident to determine whether the use of force was justified. Concurrently, the sheriff’s office has launched an internal investigation to reconstruct the events that led to the fatal encounter.

Authorities have not released body camera footage or other evidence from the scene. Such materials, if available, are expected to play a pivotal role in providing clarity about the circumstances that unfolded.

The shooting has sparked renewed discussions within the community about police use of force, particularly in situations involving individuals who may be in distress. Advocacy groups and residents are urging law enforcement agencies to prioritize transparency and provide a comprehensive account of what transpired.

Questions remain unanswered about the initial altercation between Price and his roommate, as well as the sequence of events that led to the standoff on Ashfield Way. Price’s family has called for a fair and thorough investigation, emphasizing the need for accountability in the handling of the incident.

Community leaders have also highlighted the importance of reviewing de-escalation practices and the protocols that guide law enforcement responses in high-stress situations. The case has reignited debates over law enforcement policies and the measures in place to prevent confrontations from turning deadly.

As investigations continue, the community and Price’s family are left waiting for answers that could provide closure and ensure justice is served. Law enforcement agencies have assured the public that a detailed report will be released once all investigations are complete. Meanwhile, the tragic death of Israel Price remains a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding officer-involved shootings and the broader implications for policing practices in Sacramento County.
